We believe in doing more than just welcoming people through our doors — we’re here to leave a lasting, positive impact on our city and our planet.
Westquay is operated by Hammerson, a business committed to creating places that give back more than they take. The goal? To be Net Positive by 2030 — across carbon, water, resources and local communities.
Follow Hammerson’s full journey, track performance data, and explore the latest updates.
We’re already making progress — and this is just the beginning.
Powering down
We’ve cut electricity use by 18% since 2019 — that’s enough energy to power 305 homes for a year.
Saving water
Water consumption is down by 54%, the equivalent of saving six Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Less waste, more action
We recycled 52% of our waste last year — around 645 tonnes, or the same weight as three blue whales.
We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken — but we’re even more excited about what comes next:
– Rolling out smart metering across electricity, gas and water to track usage in real time and help drive smarter decisions
– Running community engagement projects like our Lionheart Schools initiative, helping us build stronger relationships across Southampton
– Carrying out a full Climate Risk Analysis to better understand how to future-proof the centre for generations to come
Because creating inspiring destinations shouldn’t come at the planet’s expense — and at Westquay, we’re making sure it doesn’t.
